In plain English, because a policy nobody reads protects nobody.
What we collect when you sign up
Your name, email address, an optional country, whether the journey is for you or for a young person in your family, an age band for that person, and anything you choose to type into “what’s on your mind.” That is the whole list.
We ask for an age band rather than a date of birth because the band is all the service needs, and a date of birth is data we would then have to defend.
When you write to us
The contact page asks for an email address, which of four situations fits you, and anything you choose to write. That is stored so that Ron can reply, and it is sent to him by email. Nothing else is collected there.
If you are under 18
We do not create accounts for under-18s, and we do not record them. If you tell us you are under eighteen, we ask for one thing: a parent or guardian’s email address, so we can invite them. We do not ask for your name, your email, or your date of birth, and there is nowhere in our systems to put them. We keep the address, the age band you selected, and a single-use invitation link — nothing that identifies you.
If you received an invitation you did not expect, use the “this wasn’t me” link in it and we delete the address.
Why every piece of data carries a label
Every fact we hold about a person is stored with two labels attached at the moment it is written: who is allowed to see it, and why we collected it. This is not a policy statement — it is enforced by the database, which will reject a record that arrives without both.
It exists so that two promises can be kept mechanically rather than manually: a parent’s access to their child’s record is assurance and escalation, not surveillance; and when a young person turns eighteen, the data gathered for reasons that no longer apply is deleted rather than quietly retained.
Marketing is a separate decision
The briefings are an unticked, separate box. Agreeing to our terms does not sign you up to anything, and you can stop the briefings at any time without affecting your account.
What we measure on this site
Page views and which buttons get clicked, tied to a random identifier stored in your own browser. No third-party analytics script, no advertising pixel, no cross-site tracking. Clearing your browser storage erases the link entirely.
What we never do
We do not sell your data. We do not use it to train anyone else’s model. We take no commission from any university, lender, employer or programme — your family pays us, and that is the only money involved.
Your rights, and reaching a human
Ask us for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, and we will — reply to any email from us, or use the contact form. A person answers.
This notice describes what our systems actually do today. This document has not yet been reviewed by legal counsel; that review is arranged as part of incorporation, and this page will be updated when it completes. If anything here is unclear, ask us and we’ll answer plainly.
